My IELTS Experience

DAY 1:

Speaking

My IELTS speaking exam was a day before my actual test. Before the exam, I had my passport checked and biometrics taken. Then I was made to wait for my turn and was escorted into a room once my turn came.
I was a little nervous but managed to keep a smile on.
The examiner then informed me that the exam would be video recorded and started off by reading my full name, passport number and the test venue code.
My exam started with questions about myself, my work and then he went on to ask about my hobbies and stuff which helped me ease a bit and answer the rest of the questions without fear.
I didn't prepare much for this section. Just went through all the questions given in the IELTS book by British Council.

DAY 2: The other sections

The exam starts with the same procedure: passport and biometrics.

Reading:

  •  This was probably the easiest section for me. Being a quick reader, I could finish solving all the 3 passages in 30 minutes. I utilised the next half an hour to skim through my answers and revise them.
  • During practise, I did only 2 tests from the IELTS book.

Listening:

  • Another easy section. I did momentarily get distracted in between a couple of times as it was difficult for me to concentrate for half an hour at a stretch, but it did not affect my final score at all.
  • Here again I did only 2 practise tests from IELTS book.

Writing:

  • This section was a bit difficult for me.
  • I had practised around 6-8 writing tests from the IELTS book and Cambridge series.
  • Initially I had difficulty in timing this section. Remember that you need to save some time for counting the total number of words too.
  • The final exam went on smoothly for me, although I was a bit apprehensive till my final scores came.
Please remember that this is my experience. Other may find it easy or difficult depending on their expertise.
