Introduction to PLAB

PLAB or Professional Linguistic Assessment Board is a two step licensing exam which helps you register as a medical practitioner in the UK. It is held by the General Medical Council- a public body which maintains the list of registered medical practitioners in the UK.

As stated above, it is a 2 step exam:

PLAB 1:

This test consists of 200 MCQs(each MCQ carries 1 mark) and you have 3 hours to solve this exam. The questions are clinically oriented and questions from internal medicine form a major chunk of this exam. However, having a sound knowledge of all clinical subjects, namely, surgery, OBGY, paediatrics, ENT and Ophthalmology is essential.
Passing score is different during each session and is determined by the GMC based on a percentile system. Aim for a  score of 130 or above  and you can be assured of passing. Read more about qualifying for PLAB 1 here.

PLAB 2:

PLAB 2 is an objective structured clinical exam(OSCE) which means that there will be a mock patient(an actor) who simulates a particular clinical scenario and you are expected to deal with the actor like a real patient. Each exam has 18 such scenarios and each station lasts for 8 minutes.
