Applying for jobs

When to apply for a job?

According to me, the best time to apply for for a job is after you have passed your PLAB 2 exam and awaiting GMC registration. However, some people might start applying even before their PLAB 2 results are out. You will get most of your interviews after you are registered with GMC.

Where to search for a job?

This is a little tricky because:
  • Searching for a job(speciality wise) is easier through trac.jobs.
  • But applying for jobs is easier via job.nhs.
What I did is that I searched for jobs through trac.jobs. Once you get a list of the vacancies, you can see that every job has a unique reference number. I put this reference number in jobs.nhs to find the same advert and sent in my application.
This is just a suggestion. However you apply, make sure that you do not send in duplicate applications to the same job.(each from either website)

Which jobs to apply?

If this is your first job in UK, simply apply to as many jobs as you can in the speciality you are interested in. Just make sure that you are applying at your job level.(Ex, if you are a new graduate, apply for the post of Trust Grade SHO, FY2 or Junior Clinical Fellow)
What I suggest is DO NOT short-list the jobs based on location or hospital reviews. Let the hospital short-list you for an interview and then you can decide whether you want to attend that particular interview or not.

It is now time to prepare for your interview!
